The Story of My Life🎾

Camp Hanes

on October 27, 2022

At Camp Hanes, the Durham Academy 6th grade had a great experience. We pulled into Camp Hanes on a lukewarm day at 11:30 AM on a charter bus. We first went into the gym building and got to meet the instructors. After that, we played a few games including Combat Master and Four Corners. Afterwards, we were assigned cabins by gender and advisory. Our cabins were full of bunk beds. We unpacked our stuff and headed to lunch.

We had great food for lunch including salad, and chicken tenders. After that, we were split into 6 groups and assigned different activities. My group/ Group 5 first did archery. During archery, we had to be split into 3 groups, everyone got to go and shoot at least twice. It was very challenging but it made me want to get a bow. Our second activity was canoeing. Personally, Canoeing is my favorite activity. I like canoeing because it’s like swimming but you don’t get wet. The Hike had an amazing view, I thought that it was my imagination but I actually saw Winston-Salem from way up in the mountains.

Overall, this field trip was great. I am grateful to the donors and the staff at Camp Hanes. If it were not for the donors, many people at DA and at many other schools might not have been able to connect with one another.
